Hi All

I have done various fighting arts over the years - boxing, Judo, kyokushinkai karate, Lau Gar kung fu, a bit of Thai. I now train with Lee Morrison's Urban Combatives, attaining instructor status recently. I am also doing Kali, Silat & JKD.

Steve

Hi Steve,
Welcome aboard! Nice to have you here. Belated congratulations on attaining instructor status in Lee's system. Hey, were you in the testing group that included Lee's son and Alban? I spoke with Lee the day after testing and he told me he put you guys through the ringer. Anyway, well done! Kudos to you...

You've studied a nice cross-section of systems. What do you find predominantly comes out in you when you're pressure tested in training and/or in real situations? I ask because many moons ago, I studied many of the same systems (along with others) you mentioned. When it came to all-out Animal Day training fights and real-world engagements, many of the systems I studied did not come out in me (i.e. were not functional). What did were boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and a dash of muay Thai (This combo sounds familiar doesn't it? MMA anyone? Wink ) naturally at first, then later weaved and applied through the matrix of Geoff Thompson's Real Combat System.

When I realized/found out what was truly functional/practical for me (through pressure testing and real combat), I concentrated on those things exclusively and honed them to the nth degree. So, while many of my cohorts were working on being "jacks of all trades," I was focused on being a "master of few." Less is more; less is best...

Anyway, welcome again. Please feel at home to start or add your constructive "two cents" to anything that strikes your fancy. Take care and God bless...

Best Regards,
Lito

Hi Lito.

Yes I was in that testing group with Alban & Dan - it was very interesting!!! Shocked

Under presuure only gross motor skills seem to come out - so that is what I train as my main artillery aiming at 90% mindset & 10% physical. Attitude with impact are what matters and what seems to work for me.

Lee recommends kali/silat for attribute development & knife & stick skills (not how we fight the fight), so I am giving them a go.

Cheers

Steve
