Hi Bas

Thanks for accepting Lito's invitation to join the forum, look foreward to reading your veiws.

Having such a level of martial arts training behind you, do you feel that your approach to dealing with real street situations relies purely on your physical martial arts skills,or do you utilize any form of distance control, dialogue management, psychological control, pre-emptive striking (what we would term as self protection strategies) to manage the situation and avoid a full on fist fight?

Look foreward to your answer. Take care.

respectfully

Hey Dave,
Here we go:

A street fight is all about showing that you are stronger. The harder
they
shout, the more insecure they are, so that's an esy one, just call
their
bluff right away.
Also, strike first, if you feel you can't avoid it, go in right away,
many
people are afraid of a lot of "anger" and power coming towards them,
you
will intimidate them a lot.

But if you want to avoid a fight, I always used to have the same story
that
I would tell the people and had nobody called my bluff once, stay
really
relaxed and ask them awhat they do for a living.
If they say for instance, I am a carpenter, you tell them that they
probably
went to school for that and that they probably are very good right now
after
all the work that he has done.
Than I would tell them that my profession is that one of a professional

fighter, I also went to school for that, they call that Martial arts.
Like
you I worked a lot too, only my work was fighting against professional
fighters, it's my job!
With that said, you having a totally different profession than me, it's

going to be very difficult for you to beat me, same as I can not do
what you
do because that's your proffession. Sure you can have a lucky punch,
but
that chance is very small becauseagain, I don this for a living, two
times a
day, six days a week. Please reconsider and have a great night out in
the
town, I don't like to fight in general because it's for no reason
anyway and
I certainly do not like to fight without getting paid, but if you push
me,
you have to understand that I have to defend myself.

That story, or very close to it, always did it.

If you don't want to go that far, being extremely relaxed is the best
thing
to do, esspecially if they are shouting at you "barking dogs", aks them
if
they also are willing to bite, aks him if that if he really wants to
fight,
the only thing he needs to is swing first at you so that you have a lot
of
witnesses seeing that he attacked so that you can start defending
yourself,
that's it, just throw the first puch, that's the only thing I am
asking, he
won't. Things like that always work, like I mentioned before, shouting
and
making a lot of motion are signs of insecurity, so just break that last

little hope they have and you are good.

If he's very calm too and you feel it's going to go wrong, you have to
throw
the first one and keep on hitting him, break his spirit, that's my
advise.
they can be super big but agression towards agressive people always
works,
but you have to follow it up, make him an example.

If nothing works, you know that it takes like 34 muscles to put a smile
on
your face, it takes only one to stretch you arm! Haha!

Good luck, hopefully you never have to fight, like I said, it's useless
and
always for no reason.

Godspeed and party on!

Bas
