He certainly wasn't thinking 'this guy is going to Judas punch me!' |

| I wouldn't call that a Judas punch. The fight was on a long time ago, it was just a matter of who drew first.

I completely agree with you pal. The small guy definitely isn't the sharpest tool in the shed...
Check this one out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BkPvmSOVR0&feature=related In this situation, the ref was completely taken by surprise. It's understandable that a ref wouldn't think/expect to be attacked in an organized game, but it happens for time to time. As such, it would behoove any ref to be on-guard, mentally and physically, for such attacks when making calls even though the likelihood is small.

| To me they are squaring up for a 'match fight', hence the Judas aspect of the punch.
If some twat comes up to you in a pub or in the street and is aggressive then pre-empt/Judas punch - but not when you are parading your 'Macho' around in front of audience, that is just rather low rent... |

I would agree with that but I think we need to remind ourselves that we are in the minority and most folks just dont think about it never mind train for it.
Alan
PS. it was a sweet punch though. |

| Alan,
I would agree with you that common sense is quite uncommon when it comes to these matters. Both of these chaps were vulnerable during the pre- fight ritual. Standing in the pocket with their hands up their arse like that, I guess we just take it for granted. |

| The first video is a great example of how NOT to do it. Iīm going to send it to some mates whoīre a bit clueless. Has anyone got a good graphic video of a good fence/pre-empt? My mates donīt speak English, so it has to be visual.
Cheers! |

| Rupert,
I couldn't find any cctv footage of the fence being employed, but I did find a trailer for a pre-emptive instructional DVD.

It should give your friends a very basic visual understanding about setting up boundaries. |

| Hi Guys, A buddy of mine directed me to this "perfect" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9rCOpTPRlU
It clearly displays the typical body language signs/rituals common in the pre-fight confrontation stage and, on the experienced guy's part, exemplifies subtle fence work (what I believe John Skillen refers to as the "invisible fence") followed by preemption perfection. Man, he executed a perfect hook that produced a clean, clinical knockout! That, my friends, IS textbook "three-second fighting" against guys who have no clue/no control on the pre-fight aspects (which, more often than not, are the ones you're most likely to encounter in gratuitous situations). Anyway...

| | Absolute poetry in motion. I also liked Grannon's analysis of the encounter. |
