| Obviously this is a very emotive subject I dont want anyone to jump on their soapbox but I have to say I'm surprised by the reaction that we get from some quarters when the subject is mentioned.
It has been announced that Scottish police forces are to recieve £4,000,000 over the next two years help combat the terrorist threat and almost immediately the Scottish-Islamic Foundation cautioned against creating a "terror industry" which would need to find work to justify its existence.
How short the memory of some people must be, it is not yet two years since two fanatics drove a 4x4 packed with explosives into the terminal building at Glasgow airport, the cost to emergency services and of the police operation that followed would swallow this money up no time flat.
The cost of the police operation in the aftermath of the London bombings two years earlier must have been astronomical, how can anyone think that such operation would have to find work for themselves, I would say the work is already there and desperately needs to be financed.
Lets not forget
Glasgow

London

| | i agree with you 100 percent. We are lucky in the uk to have an excellent proffessional police and millitary services. What makes them so proffessional and effective is the fact that they are prepared, so i feel that preparation is everything. We have had terroism for years in the uk its nothing new hear just different nut cases. |

| When we talk about self protection surely making sure that the Police are properly funded is one of the first step to consider.

| Yes i see self protection as a massive issue with alllsorts of angles and daily life events. When dealing with murderous violent people like islamic terrorists there is only only one effective way on dealing with them and that is to HIT THEM HARD when the opportunity strikes. Because these people would cut the throats of our familys while they slept given the sightest chance. It is essential that the police and specialist units are always one step ahead so there should be no limitation to funds.
It seems that many of these muslim spokes people and groups might feel that they are being targeted when the goverment announce these things. I have no desire to hurt anyone or stop them living thier lives as long as the respect is mutual. |

We are agreed on the financial aspect here but I think we have to be careful not to only look at Islamics, terrorists come in all shapes and shades and from all types of back ground, to concentrate on any one section of socirty would only leave us vulnerable on other fronts.

| | yes you are correct i wasnt trying to point the finger at particular groups. There are other threats with the same and greater potential. The public only see a small part of the truth, not forgetting the poitics being spun. |
