| I was shopping today for the two pieces of kit that I use most often when teaching a class, 1) Whistle, we have two groups traing in the same hall, juniors at one end and seniors at the other, there is music playing and a lot of grunting and whacking of pads so shouting yami, stop or hold the bus all night just sends me home with a sore throat, the whistle is a life saver, loud and clear everybody knows what it means.
2) Stop watch, I need this for timed rounds and drills, I also have a gymboss which I use for tabata's but I use the stop watch more.
What pieces of kit do you guys find essential for your training/teaching.

| Hi Alan, My bare essentials: 1) Mirror 2) Thai Pads 3) Focus Mitts 4) Timer
Now, the essential equipment I like my students/training partners to have are: 1) Mouthpiece 2) Headgear (My preference being motorcycle helmets, which I can provide if necessary.) 3) Groin Protector

| Not essential but I recently purchased a resistance harness.

We found it to be a really useful piece of kit. One thing that we do with it is get a padman with large strike shield standing out of reach of the man wearing the harness, we then get the harness wearer psyched up to attack the padman, instead of just flying at the padman you have to reach full aggression before we allow you to get close enough to launch your attack.
There are of course a multitude of ways to make use of this equipment it's also good for some warm up drills.
I got the one in the photo from ebay for £5.00 that's good value even if we only use occaissionally.

| Since posting about these earlier I checked around and found they were retailing at £14.00-20.00 so I went back to ebay and snapped up the last job lot of 4 harnesses for £21.00.

| Here's another item that I purchased a couple of just recently (again they were on sale and it was a bargain) and I have already had good use from.

We are using them in light scenario work so that the good guy can target the head instead of a hand held pad, I wouldn't trust them to take full impact shots although I personally have taken a few fairly heavy blows wearing one and the mask allows palm strikes to the face which is a bonus.
I am going to add more padding to the helmet to allow for heavier contact and improved safety, I will let you all know how it works out, knowing my skills at hand crafts probably not too well.

| Okay, with some extra padding and duck tape the head gauerd is completely transformed and can take a higher level of impact but I must stress this is still not intended for full blown all out shots, the extra padding comes from an old boxing head gaurd so it's the correct material for the job.
