Anyone supplement with this amino acid? Thoughts? I have heard that it can help with recovery by some, but it is useless by others.

im no expert on nutrition, i took it years ago as part of a drink... the benefit really comes like many supplements if you're deficient i think, endurance athletes, particularly long distance runners were fond to have low levels so it would really benefit people doing tons of training, sorry i cant be of more use Smile

Hi there, With regards to the supplement Glutamine as a recovery aid I think that there are much better supplements on the market today. Glutamine claims to help you recover but there is no positive evidence to support the usage of large doses to help recovery. In fact I have read some reports that suggest that the human body cannot utilse large amounts of glutamine so supplementing is therefore useless.
However I do know of a supplement that is very good for recovery and have used for about four years. Its called Neovite. You can check out the details at www.neovite.com for the details. I first started using this supplement when I was racing competively on a racing bike. I was doing around 300 miles a wekk and struggling to recover, coming down with upper respiritory infections/throat infections and one day got speaking to one of the pro racers and he told me about this supplement and that it works wonders. So I purchased some and never looked back, its great. You just have to make sure that you buy the correct grade like from neovite as there are lots of cheap rubbish out there with the same claims. Interestingly about a year ago there was a program on the tv were they got 15 non trained people to do a test. They were initialy made to do a mini olympics to judge there abilities then 5 were put on anobolic steroids, 5 neovite, the others amino acids or a placebo. These guys were retested after about eight weeks and the reults were really close. The steroids users had the largest increase in strength ect... but close behind them were the neovite users!! In fact some of the neovite users thought they were in fact taking the hormones because of the lagre gains they recieved. Anyway nuff said, check out the webbsite. cheers
