| Hey guys,
I have been on a very strict healthy eating regime, no dairy & no meat. Basically that leaves me with salad n veg, rice potatoes, pasta, and veggie burgers and variations of the above. Was doing really well lost 22lbs from January 1st. I aimed at 2000kcal a day.for my weight which was at worst 15st, down to 13st 6lb. Now the sh*& hits the fan, and my back went (prolapsed disc). The worst it's ever been. Off work for 6weeks and the first time I've ever being put on Morphine! It was so bad I couldn't get out of bed to use the bathroom for a wee! At this time I was doing quite a bit of exercise, stregth training. lots of stretching 30 -40mins, bear walks, press-ups, sit-ups. sqwat thrusts. burpees, in sets of 5 sets of 20 each, (then getting my handbag an dancing around that for 1/2 hr) lol. It's the only injury that totally stops me from exercising. So I've put a few comfort lbs back on, bit like Ricky Fatton. Anyway have you suffered with this and have you been able to train through it, just wondered.

| Hi John, While I've suffered from my fair share of injuries, I haven't suffered from anything as debilitating as what you're going through.
What I would do when injured was work around the injury. I would exercise using the parts of my body that were fine and dandy. I would recommend you doing the same, but it sounds like that's not an option for you. If that's the case, and you can't exercise in any capacity, I would concentrate on the diet and completely rest up to facilitate a faster recovery. You're not going to be in this condition forever John. It may be long, it may be shorter than you think, but from what you said/not said, you'll eventually be able to workout again. And when you're able, YOU WILL be able to regain and perhaps exceed what you were able to accomplish before.
I don't know if this is a good analogy or not, but remember Lance Armstrong's plight? He had stage three or four cancer I believe and was laid up, unable to do anything for quite awhile. But you know what happened when he recovered? He slowly, steadily, and surely built himself up better, way better than he was before and went on to win an unprecedented seven Tour de France races in a row. A feat that won't be broken for awhile, if ever (especially now that they've really crack down on steroids). If he can do it after almost dying from cancer, so can you...
So, rest up, rehabilitate with a physical therapist, be conscientious with your diet, and before you know it, you'll be back in the game. You may have to be more careful, but that's okay. You'll just have to train smarter not necessarily harder...
Oh, one more thing, you can constructively use your down time to read some good books. Be sure to pick constructive and/or uplifting ones that can bolster your spirits and/or teach you something positive/functional.
